OK the penny drops - Camberley - dreamboxshop.co.uk

They're pretty good in terms of customer service etc. AFAIK.

Buy the Dreambox 7020 and don't think any more about it. If you can stretch to a hard disk for it too, all well and good, but you can chuck your own small cheap disk in it at a latter date if the price starts getting a little scary.

Don't beat yourself up about the price. Decide if you want to spend that much, and then just do it. I don't know very many people who have regretted it. You can always sell it on if you do find it's not all you thought it would be.

The biggest plus with the Dreambox, is that with friendly forums like this, it all becomes a lot easier. Our patience is legendary

STICK
STICK you are great! (thanks for the quick replies )

It's just the point of handing over £650ish quid in one go and not knowing what i'm going to get :roflmao:

I guess I just need some assurance from existing users, as you say if it does not work for me the kit will sell on.

Right I think I have decided:- (well until tomorrow anyway!!)

Get a DM7020 as I can see me getting a 500/600 and then wishing I had got the 7020 in the first place : HDD later (upgrade to 8000 12 months)

Stick with the installer but suggest t&k brackets (not sure how he will take this ops but should be ok

Ask lots of questions on here!! I may need your help guys over the next few days anything you guys think I should know or *have* over the next few days please let me know

That all looks a bit over the top on price and the L bracket is not adequate IMHO. There are recommendations by Stick and they are very worth following.

Yep noted, as stated I will request a different bracket and also question the motor.

Don't be too sheepish when you speak to your installer.

Just tell him that you would like T&K because it's stronger and more flexible in terms of any adjustments you may need to make in the future. If he gets ****ty about it, then he's not a very good installer AND he's overcharging you - so tell him no thanks

Well worth investing in galvanised brackets as opposed to painted or powder coated. Nothing worse than having massive rust-streaks running down your walls in under a year.

Good luck. The biggest risk in all this is not having any support, but I can promise you that the Dreambox experience here at Satellite Help is very good, and we'll get you up and running one way or another.

You will have to have some patience though. It won't just all fall into place on day 1 and you will experience problems and frustrations. Just try and enjoy their resolution instead of cursing every hurdle you encounter.

The learning experience is very rewarding, and in about 5 years you will be the master of the beast under your telly.

The other thing to bear in mind is that the Dreambox only walks and talks when it's permanently connected to the internet. It's easiest to do this via a router.

No probs with that part as I have a 20mb cable connection & home network already set up with spare ports behind where the kit goes (Xbox 360 & PS3 are also on the network)

Great news blicky.

Stick was a bit wrong. With a router, it doesn't walk and talk. It runs and shouts.
The INxt card will make you go blind. , as you will see when you pop it into the DB.

Ok the progs I would recommend are:
Dreamup, just in case you have a problem and need to reflash the box.
Flashwizard 6.3 pro for image manipulation.
FlashFXP for file changing etc.

You wil also need a usb memory stick to install the extra images you will want to try out.

Any problems, I am on msn and can help or hinder as you wish.

Thanks for the advice again, I have used FlashFXP before and have a registered copy somewhere (used on old Xbox) and have a 128mb USB stick laying around unsure of make but will give it a go, also have some CF cards if that will help for now until I get a HDD.

I may need you on MSN when the dish is up  ops:

Well done m8. That is the numero uno satellite receiver on the planet. Enjoy it.

Just take your time and prepare properly before flashing the onboard image. That's the only thing that will give you a headache, though it's usually recoverable.

Once your network is set up, there'll be no looking back.

And yes, you can plug your Sky dish into it for now

Put a nice stable, reliable image in flash memory, and all the fancy stuff on USB. I use Boxman in flash, but everyone has their favourite.
