Just for your info my unit came with both IDE and Power cables installed (and rails as advised)

Also the CF and HDD are working fine together, no issues

Still getting to grips with it all but it's all making more sence now!

I think it must be a standard thing as mine was the same. I still can't get mine to work with the CF though

I can also recommend a Western Digital 7200rpm HDD, Super quiet and no problems at all since install

Just ordered a freesat card from $KY for £20, I guess this will just slot into the 7020 and then just ring them for activation??

Thought it would be worth getting as I will be able to record/view a freesat channel on the 7020 (and also 2 on the HD box at the same time) it's just that sometimes you need to be recording 2 channels and watching another!

when you phone to activate the freesat card you will need to give details of a sky digibox as they wont activate for use in a non sky receiver

I don't know what details you have to give on the phone, but I've heard that they do physically activate OK in a Dreambox - though I've never seen it happen with my own eyes. You could always say you're at work and can't get to the box, and that you bought the receiver off eBay.

If you do put it in a real digibox to activate it, be aware that whichever card is currently in that box (and paired with it) will be un-paired when you activate your new FTV card in it.

This doesn't matter most of the time, but if you subscribe to some additional subscription services, the box will reject the 'foreign' card (i.e. the original card when it's put back in). This will mean another call to Sky to sort it all out.

It could also p!ss of the mate whose house you've gone round to activate it

So in theory then I could activate it in my Sky HD box then call back 10mins later to re-activate my HD card?? and the freesat would still be active??

Or buy a cheap Sky box from that well known auction site to activate it??

Also when I purchased it they never asked what equipment I had and it says nothing about Sky equipment only on the freesat website just about 'only for use in the UK'

You could try just sticking it in your HD box and waiting. I had one arrive from Sky already activated

Other than that, yes - your HD trick should work. So will the s/h eBay box.

Whatever you do, don't play silly bu99ers with Sky. If you let on that you're sticking it in a non-Sky box and expecting it to work, you can expect blue flashing lights and helicopters with infra-red imaging shit hovering over your house within seconds.

Well I was looking around on the usual auction site last night and managed to bag a Sky digibox for £15 inc. P&P I have a feeling it will cost the seller that in postage :roflmao:

Am I right in saying once it's activated I will no longer need the Sky box? if so I will sell on the box and just stick it in me HD box from time to time if it misses updates??
