Default Replacement aerials needed after ASO

Ofcom has published details of the digital services that will be available after analogue switch off in areas served by the 81 transmitters that already carry digital multiplexes. The plan reveals that in many areas replacement aerials will be needed because the digital channels fall outside of the frequency range used by the new services. However, it is unlikely that a second upgrade will be needed if the aerial has already been upgraded for the purpose of receiving DTT.

All three transmitters in the Anglia region, and significant parts of the Yorkshire and Central regions will require new aerials if they have not already been upgraded. However, the Granada and Border regions require no upgrade.

In this neck of the woods, WB aerials sprouting up all the time as people upgrade to receive the existing DTT transmissions.
As the lowest EIRP from Sudbury at the moment is 1.1kW and after switch off Sudbury will be going to 100kW for all the muxes I would imagine that a wet bit of string or a paper clip stuck in the aerial socket will pick up the channels in some cases .
I'm sure that the increase in power after switchover, in many areas, will not really require an aerial upgrade.
IMHO more information being published by OFCOM to p*ss off the viewing public by forcing us to yet again dig into our pockets to pay for an aerial upgrade which may not be necessary at all.
Hence aerial installers will be laughing all the way to the bank, and the goverment will be rubbing their hands with glee at the extra VAT they will be taking in.
Rip off GB once again.
Thats my 10penny worth from a very disgruntled old git.

LOL, I agree. Coupled with the other news today that all our Freeview boxes are already out of date because by the time we get to ASO all the transmissions will be in MPEG-4, I think the public have got every right to be battered, disgruntled and confused.

**** up in a brewery - NOT!

Ther will be not mpeg 4 on freeview,

There may be HD TV in digital form but it wont be free, it will require yet another set top box and a subscription. >

Woohoo no upgrades needed in Border

Actually out tv aerial does need to be upgraded - its never been the same since a heaby snowfall 6 or 7 years ago,, and an unfortunate incident where it met the top of a set of ladders didnt help! Plus the tree growth in the woodland has put our signals to marginal.

Blimey - another job to do on one of our few sunny weekends sometime....

Now do I see if I can get a new aerial up high enough on the side of the house or do I do something drastic and put it down by the dishes at the bottom of the garden (clear LOS onto Selkie Hill - just need to get it high enough to clear the farm lorries!) Decisions decisions.....

I don't know what all the fuss is about. All you need is a loop aerial and an old OnDigital box

I can pick up everything with mine

The newer sleeker Philips freeview box i bought was crap, and would probably only work if you were sitting on top of the transmitter

Anyone else remember getting Sky One on through their TV aerial

Also possible where c&ble companies have poorly shielded feeders where their cables run along the roads - the cables radiate the satellite signals!

Friends of ours used to get 3 or 4 extra (snowy) channels in a house down in Northampton
