Default C-band and Ku band

About 7 GHz!

C-band is the band downlinking around 4 GHz , Ku band is downlinking off the satellite at about 11 GHz

Ive split this off its original thread as its well off topic for the original thread!

The electromagnetic spectrum covers everything from miles long radio wavelengths (very low frequencies) to way up past the the ultra high frequency (very short wavelengths) stuff making up gamma rays. OK?

The frequencies usable by satellites stretch from about 1 GHz up to about 40 GHz.

(Ghz - 1 billion cycles per second)

This band is subdivided into 5 or 6 bands depending on the frequencies

L-band (390MHz-1.55GHz) GPS satellites, satellite phones, misc commsats, SETI outer space exploration
S-band (1.55-5.2GHz) weather satellites, XM/Sirius radio
C-band (3-7GHz) misc GEO commsats, cable TV distribution, satellite TV (large 7-10 ft. steerable dishes), first band for communications satellites
X-band (8-12GHz) misc commsats (often military)
Ku-band (11-15GHz) TV network satellite distribution, misc commsats, satellite TV (small 18" dishes)
Ka-band (18-40GHz) misc commsats, satellite phone backhaul, data transfer

Good post. Here is the even wider frequency range allocations for Europe.

Thanks, bit clearer now, so their isn't relay any TV/radio as such on the C band? I'm better off sticking with KU

Sure, there's some weird and wonderful TV on C-band. The Americans use it a lot as do many other parts of the world, but Europe is almost exclusively Ku band so that answers your second bit too.
