Default Line of sight

Hi guys

I'm on the final approach to having my new setup. However, I have just one last question before I splash the cash. I am looking to put up a 90cm-1m dish in place of my old analogue S k y dish in order to get DigitALB 16e and hotbird 13 e with a monoblock. Please have a look at the photos (hopefully attached) and tell me if next doors tree may get in the way of a signal. Any opinions will be greatfully received.

Possibly is the answer.
How is it on 19E at the moment I wonder ??.

Looking at your pictures (always good to provide these) a possible get out would be to mount the dish at the apex of your gable end. That would be a solution unless that tree is going to grow another 30 feet anytime soon.

My guess would be that the tree is way too low to get in the way, but they do have a habit of growing!

How much higher than the dish does it stand, and how far away is it?

How fast has it grown so far?

Thanks Lancelot

I think my biggest concern is that I don't want to fork out for a new receiver, dish and DigitAlb card if I won't be able to get a decent signal.

So long as I will be able to mount a 1m dish somewhere on that wall (no line of sight in my back garden and can't have the dish in the front garden) and get a decent signal, I'll be happy

Hi stick

I don't have a ladder tall enough (and I wouldn't go up it if I did ops: I've got a mate for that!) to see the exact line of sight above the tree, it's probably 50cm-1m higher than the gutter (rough guestimate that!) and probably 7-10m diagonally from the corner of my house (although, again I'm not much good at guessing distances). It doesn't grow that quickly, so it won't change drastically in the next few years.

Go for it. I think it'll be fine. Your biggest problem will be avoiding the minidish.

By your figures, the current height of the dish should be sufficient by quite a margin.
The rough guide being twice as far away as the obstuction is high, for sats in the centre of the arc.
(and you're saying it's only another metre higher than the dish is now)

I'd certainly be inclined to go for it 'as is' and see what results you get with the reciever in situ.
You definitely have a lot of legroom by moving the antenna up another six to eight feet towards the apex should the need arise.

Cheers guys, I think I know what to do.

The minidish is another matter. I'll just have to make sure the new dish doesn't get in the way. Shouldn't be too much of a problem though.

Thanks again

Hi bigG, do you know what species of tree it is? It appears to be a deciduous model so you should be ok for the Digitalb footy through the winter even if it does grow.

Hi Jimdefruit

I'm not sure what type of tree it is. It's not a pine or oak! I need to get out my little book of trees.

From what Lancelot says, and what I think based on that, I should be alright. So it looks like full steam ahead!
