BBC Monitoring has observed Dawn News, the first English-language TV news channel from Pakistan, broadcasting coverage of developments at the Lal Masjid in Islamabad. The channel officially launched test transmissions on 25 May, and when observed on 10 July was carrying a “test transmission” caption in one corner of the screen. But the channel’s output was devoted to rolling coverage of events in Pakistan, with only brief breaks for commercials and promotional videos. The broadcast was anchored from a studio in Karachi with live reports - some with video, some audio only - from correspondents in Islamabad, Peshawar and Quetta. The screen also had a scrolling news ticker and News Alert captions.
Dawn News TV is part of the Herald Publications Group which owns Dawn, Pakistan’s highest-circulation English-language newspaper. It transmits on Intelsat 10 at 68.5 degrees east; frequency 4144 MHz, horizontal polarization. Source: BBC Monitoring

Hope it is a success within Pakistan.
Maybe then,we might see it being launched internationally. It would be a welcome addition to the Sky platform, certainly more substantial, than the frothy channels being launched from the Asian subcontinent. I wonder if it will be fta,(commercials are mentioned)or part of a package? |
