Hi guys (& girls??).....just read the guides, & learnt more in 10 mins about patching technomates, & dreamboxes than in hours in circles 'elsewhere'.....Thxs, excellent work & congrats...cos it aint easy to keep it simple when you 'know'
![]() Ok, so I have an (virtually unpatchable) FTA box, Astra 2 on a big dish, & Astra 1 & Hotbird on another (+ Portuguese TV on terrestial.......well the late night films can be OK; if the 20 mins of commercials don't put you to sleep).....Any other sats (Cabo apart)? I can update the receiver, add new transponders etc, without needing the crap manual.......so the basic 'sat. toilet training' is done? So now I want more because at last I am online reliably......a miracle in itself round here! Here's my question (at last!):- Bearing in mind the above and that I do not like football...............where's everyone gone? .......... do I go the Dreambox route or Technomate? --- then which model, & then & then ..........(& I suppose, which fleabay sellers do I avoid??!! ) I think that's enough for now........I will try to keep the posts shorter from now on!! ...... Muito Obrigado |

Well hello Portugal!
![]() Welcome to the forum. Don't like football huh? :? Let me just make a note...... doesn't...... like....... football..... :roflmao: OK Buy a Dreambox 7020 if you think you can both handle and afford it. And don't buy it off eBay! Ebay is a bad place where faulty Dreamboxes come back from the dead :mega: Tenha um dia amável! (I'm hoping that says 'have a nice day', and that I haven't insulted your mother... my Portuguese sucks more than my English.)

Hello Loathecliff, :welc2:
I have a TM1500. It is a simple machine to use. But for longevity, one of the Linux based machines is probably the way to go. The dreambox is a highly rated box, but the Technomate TM9100 (which is Linux based), is growing in both support and popularity. I'm sure owners of both of these popular receivers will advise you. And when you've decided, check out the forum sponsors for prices. http://www.satellitehelp.co.uk/forum...oard,72.0.html Regards, Yorks Edit: I need to learn to type quicker Stick!

Hi Loathecliff,
From what I have read the Dreambox 7020 has excellent support. BGonaStICK certainly knows his stuff on this subject. As for the 'coming soon' Linux machine - with any new box it often takes time for support to grow. So if you want to get up and running fairly quickly, and don't fancy being a crash test dummy, then go for a well established receiver for starters. Regards, Yorks.

Hiya Loathecliff, welcome to the forum. Im not running the Technomate Linux box down, but it is still a new toy, and ahem unofficial support for it is not as good as for ther long established Dreambox.
There are a lot of DB owners on the forum and we have found most of the problems that plague beginners with them The 702x series are the ones to go for if you have the money (7000's are more or less the same as the 7020's apart from the 7020's have an rf output. The 7025's are twin tuner units, but dont have quite such good support as the other two types being slightly less popular) If you want to own something different then the Triple Dragon may be worth looking at. Support levels again not quite so high as the DB's but the folks who have them seem to love them.

Maybe the auto-updating box of which you speak is the Lyngbox?
http://www.lyngbox.com I doubt very much that it will take care of anything but basic transponder/channel updates

If you go for the Dreambox, a couple of remote control button pushes does the update for you if you install the right image.
The one that is coming, we hope soon, is the HD version DM8000.

I wasn't being funny, the Lyngbox is a Linux box that takes live updates from the LyngSat site, but I don't know if there are plans for it to do more than that in terms of updating.Enjoy your research - that's half the fun! Feel free to ask as many questions in as many sections as you like
