Default BT confirms Premiership pricing

BT Vision has given details of its coverage of the Barclays Premiership, charging fans £4 (€5.43) a month for delayed coverage of the Saturday afternoon kick-offs, and £12 when combined with a subscription to Setanta Sports. Individual games can be purchased at £1.99.

BT’s IPTV customers will be able to select from 242 matches from the Premiership and up to 125 games from the second tier Coca Cola league and Carling Cup games. A Setanta subscription adds another 46 Premiership games and 60 from the Scottish Premierleague.

The demands of live television means that each week around six fixtures will be creamed off by Sky Sports and Setanta for their premium channels. The top clubs can go for weeks without what was once the traditional Saturday 3.00pm kick-off.

BT and BSkyB, which continues to show the matches as part of its Football First programme, purchased the delayed rights for the Premiership jointly, the difference for BT subscribers is that they will be truly on demand. Former Gazzetta Football Italia presenter James Richardson will front the BT coverage.

Seems good value to me. My team Birmingham are only be shown three times live in the first round of matches chosen, 2 at home and one away. Will be going to 2 of them, watch the other down the pub. So instead of spending upto £40-50 a month (incl setanta subs) for seeing the 1 live match and football first. I can just watch football first for less than a fiver a month.

Yes, I think that being able to pick and choose matches has a lot of merit. As you say, this model will suit many people much better, for various reasons.

The BT Vision games are delayed though, so you'll have to walk around with ear defenders and a blindfold on for 24hrs
