Default Hispasat to lose more channels?

Last year Hispasat lost Spanish channel operator Teuve's contract and now it seems the satellite operator could suffer another loss, this time Multicanal.

Multicanal is studying several possibilities. One of them is using Intelsat 3R's capacity – the same that Teuve chose at the end of last year.

The main reason is to try to combat piracy. Nagravision -the system used by Multicanal to encrypt its channels and the same one used by Teuve at the time, is one of the most hacked ones in the world. Multicanal is tired of hearing its small cable operator clients’ claims that their signals are being hacked. The same happens with Multicanal's channels distributed by Sogecable's Digital+ pay TV operator in Hispasat's case.

Teuve and Multicanal are two of Spain's most important producers of thematic channels apart from Sogecable and losing both would be a blow to Hispasat.

Multicanal produces the signals of Canal Hollywood, Odisea, Canal de Historia (The History Channel), The Biography Channel, Panda and Canal Cocina.

Now the question is: What will Hispasat do with those transponders free if Multicanal leaves it?
