Hi everyone,
It's been awhile, but you know how it is; you guys got me all set up and running, a certain shadowy figure keeps me in movies and other content, and I forget all about you all ops: Not, really, of course, but I've been busy this "summer" (in quotes because it's more like perpetual April here in Norfolk), and haven't done anything new to my satellite in a long time.Anyway, thought of you all when I saw this this morning. Lidl's got part of a sat kit going starting next week; if I gave you the direct link, it would either take you to my Lidl store or to yours to a different item, so just go to Lidl here: http://www.lidl.co.uk Click on the "specials" tab at the top, and then on next Monday's date; then scroll through all the food (!!) to the three relevant links, one for the dish, £14.99 (no size listed), one for the single lnb £3.99, and one for the wall bracket, £2.99. Will have a read up and see what's been going on here with you all, but I hope you're all well! ![]() Best, Rob

I had one of these 80cm dishes briefly. The exceptionally strong January winds (early 2007) soon sorted it out!
The winds were that strong one particular day (my wife's account as I was at work) that the dish was buckling and springing under strong gusts. A bit like one of those tamper proof lids on jars! Probably the same gauge steel . But to be fair I have lived here for seven years and have in that time not witnessed winds that strong. In fact several trees (one at the bottom of the road) were also felled by the this inclement weather. After a couple of hours onslaught, the wall bracket finally surrendered,(yes, £2.99 Lidl special). Obviously the same gauge steel as the jar lid, and the dish. My wife miraculously managed to grab the dish by the LNB arm as the bracket snapped, and was blown the full length of the house - dish in hand, cable still attached and being shot at by cable clips as they popped out of the wall. She came to a halt at the back gate - it was closed! Now some people will think what dedication, to risk life and limb for a £14.99 lidl dish. Alas, by her own admission, her only motivation was the likely ensuing insurance claim should the dish have crashed through someones front window. The dish is a write-off. Even a Master Panel Beater couldn't sort out it's deformity. I've hidden it in the garage so it doesn't cause offense, but the Lnb has come through the ordeal unscathed. I have since found the Lnb a new home on an 80cm Raven Aries mesh dish supported by a scaffold pole, T & K brackets and being piloted by a Moteck motor. Strong winds............ bring it on. ![]() Regards, Yorks.

Well said Nano!
Just because it was on sale at the same time as the 80cm dish, doesn't mean that it is a suitable support for it. But I risked it anyway. ![]() Of course I am older and wiser now

Ahh, Confucius he learn valuable lesson about cheap Lidl satellite bracket today. Make good washing-line bracket, but sh!t at holding up big ****ing dish.

Well I was miss sold a lidl dish on ebay >
![]() Anyway it was a 60cm and I tried it the other day. It gave worse results than a mini dish I'm thinking of turning it into a bird bath ![]() I would avoid them. The mounting shown in Lidl doesn't look strong enough for a mini dish let alone an 80cm defiantly not a Lidl bargin. LNB might be good :?

I've got the 60cm dish as well and it works perfectly well even with torrential rain, although I only use for 28e FTA but I've had a S*y box hooked up to it. Yeah, the bracket does look a bit weak but it serves my purposes.
After reading this forum for a number of months now I may take the plunge and wonder off Astra 28. |
