Sony Corp. has conformed that a new, slimmer version of the PlayStation Portable handheld video game console will go on sale in Japan from September 20.

Sony said that the PSP-2000 would have a recommended price tag of 19,800 yen (E117) and come in six colours. The revamped PSP, which was unveiled at the E3 industry conference in California, is said to be a third lighter than its predecessor, 19 per cent slimmer.

Sony also confirmed that the rumoured TV peripheral will finally launch alongside the newly reshaped handheld. Slotting into the USB slot on top of the PSP, the TV Tuner receives digital terrestrial channels via Japan's 1seg broadcasting service.
