BT Group has confirmed that over 20,000 customers have signed for its IPTV service BT Vision.
BT chief executive Ben Verwaayen told the assembled press that the company had taken a measured approach since it launched at the end of 2006. BT’s strategy is to target homes that do not want to commit to a regular pay-TV subscription – although in order to order from BT Vision’s selection of PPV movies, music and sport it is necessary to hold a subscription to BT’s broadband service. Verwaayen said he anticipated subscriber levels to pass 100,000 by the end of the year. BT Retail took 38% of new broadband subscriptions in the quarter to June 30, 2007.
