Default 20,000 have BT Vision

BT Group has confirmed that over 20,000 customers have signed for its IPTV service BT Vision.

BT chief executive Ben Verwaayen told the assembled press that the company had taken a measured approach since it launched at the end of 2006.

BT’s strategy is to target homes that do not want to commit to a regular pay-TV subscription – although in order to order from BT Vision’s selection of PPV movies, music and sport it is necessary to hold a subscription to BT’s broadband service.

Verwaayen said he anticipated subscriber levels to pass 100,000 by the end of the year. BT Retail took 38% of new broadband subscriptions in the quarter to June 30, 2007.
