Default Help required setting up cable from 1 mtr disk to satellite box

Can anyone help with the setup of a 1 metre disk to satellite box.

Have quite an old dish and box (Echostar AD3000IP) which was on the house when we moved in and worked fine. It was disconnected when having some work done and now we don't know what wires go where.

We have a cable which splits into 5 wires (yellow, brown, red, white & green) which need to be plugged into the back of the box which is not colour co-ordinated. The instructions for the box say connect motor wires to M1 and M2, we have found M1 and M2 connections on the back of the box but how do we know which cables are the motor cables? Any help appreciated.

The only sure way of knowing is to check the wiring in your motor, on the dish, as these can be attached however the installer feels.
On mine, I attached the 2 thicker wires to the motor, M1 and M2.
I set mine up myself and have the white wire going to M Pulse, the Black to Ground, Green - M1, Red - M2, but as I said you can attach the wires anyway round, depending on the cable, and if you connect them incorrectly you can damage your motor.
If possibe check where they are attached on your motor before attaching them to you receiver.

Thanks for the reply, I can't gain easy access to the dish, so someone advised me to just try any colour cables in M1 & M2 and if they are not correct they just won't power the motor and shouldn't damage it, but are you saying they will?

If you connect 36V to the reed switch you will probably blow the little beggars up

If you have to take a guess then go with the two fattest cables for the motor (if there are any fatter cables that is). If it is installed correctly this is what will power the motor. If you get the motor polarity wrong (i.e. + to- and - to +) then the motor will go east when you want it to go west and vice versa. This won't cause any damage and is easily rectified by swapping M1 and M2 round at you're receiver. But it will cause problems if you connect the reed sensors to M1 and M2 So bear this in mind m8 when connecting it up, I'm not taking any responsibility if it goes wrong, don't try and sue me cos you don't know where I live and I'm not telling

Good luck

Kev

If you connect the motor wires to the sensor, then you will definitely burn it out. So, make abslutely sure which is which. The only safe way is to open the motor terminals and check. If you get it wrong you will have to open the motor to replace the reed switch anyway.

After you check it make a note of the connections because if you are like me, you will forget which is which six months down the road.
