Default How to measure elevation correctly?

I don't know how can i set the correct elevation of my dish. The coordinates are calculated. My dish is 120 cm, oval, it has an offset angle. The elevation is 37 degree and I would also like to know that what is my dish's weight and height.

The width and height can be just measured off the dish face. However, what you really need to measure is the offset angle which is the angle between the centreline of the dish and the line from the lnb to the centre of the dish ...ish.

Not easy to measure offset and the easiest way to get it right is to point the dish at the correct East/West angle for the sat you want and, depending upon the part of the world you are located, start from having the dish vertical and very gradually tilt it upwards.

As a guide, in the UK the dish will be just a little bit tilted back from the vertical position with the maximum tilt being when pointed at Thor 1 west.

I live in Serbia, Subotica is located at 46.07° North, 19.68° East, about 10 km from the border with Hungary. And my dish is pointing to Astra 19.2 E.

You are correct. The elevation angle you need for Astra 1 at your location is indeed 37 degrees.

Your azimuth will clearly be set to almost exactly due South, and your LNB skew set to zero.

As Jim says, run a tape measure over your dish if you want to know the size, but if it was sold as a 120cm dish the vertical measurement will probably be about 125cm and the horizontal around 100cm.

Calculating the offset angle to arrive at your overall elevation can be fiddly. If you know the manufacturer and model number of your dish, the best way to find the offset angle is to go to the manufacturers website and check the specifications - offset angle should definitely be stated there.

Normally, you don't need to know this - because there is a scale printed near the adjustment pivot on the dish, and this should take account of the offset angle - hence you would just set the scale to 37 degrees.

As has also been mentioned, this pre-setting is only a guide to finding the satellite. You will need to adjust the dish for optimum reception once you have it all up and connected.

Good luck!

Is it only us who measure dish faces properly I wonder ??
My OP120 measures 124.5 x 133.5 and is sold as a 125cm.

I'd be a little disappointed if it was 125cm measured vertically.

LOL who knows - there is no standard whatsoever - or if there is, nobody sticks to it!

My Triax TD110 is only 112cm vertically!

Acoording to vetrun.com and Satlex my offset angle is 24, but someone on vetrun said to align it to vertical and then pull it up a little - 10 degree.
I can't measure my dish accurate, because it is reflecting the sun into my eyes, but as I could read it's height was 122 cm.

I can receive signal! Thanks for helping. Signal is between 77-91%, depending on the transponder.
