Virgin Media and Sky have lavished an unprecedented £92m (E133m) on advertising in five months, as the battle for subscribers in the pay-TV market intensifies.
Sky made up the lion's share and boosted its adspend by more than a third year on year ploughing almost £60m into ads compared with £44m in the same period in 2006, according to Nielsen Media Research. In contrast, Virgin Media spent £32m on promotional activity between February and June.
