German pay-TV operator Premiere has confirmed that it will screen three live soccer matches per weekend in high definition via cable and satellite.
From the start of the Bundesliga’s new season on August 10, on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays a game will be shown using the new technology. On so-called “English weeks” a match on Tuesday and one on Wednesday will be screened in HDTV on movie and sports channel Premiere HD. Former rights holder Arena did not show games in HDTV over the previous season, but Premiere produced up to three HD matches per week last season for T-Home, the IPTV platform on Deutsche Telekom’s VDSL network. With the sublicensing of the rights to Premiere, cable and satellite households can now also benefit from the high definition transmissions. Source: World Media
