Default Portable satellite equipment

A friend of mine has just bought a camper van and has asked me for recommendations for portable satellite equipment. I told her that I didn't know too much about it but I probably know a man (on a forum) who does.

So, if anyone can make some recommendations for the type of equipment to look out for / those to avoid etc., I would be most grateful. I think she intends to use the camper around the UK and possibly through France and Spain. It's mainly to keep in touch with UK TV so the priority would be the ability to receive Astra 2 - other satellites would be a bonus but not essential.

She would like to buy a complete system - preferably from a single supplier. Any pointers to makes, sellers etc. would be very welcome!

What sort of budget?

The biggest consideration here is going to be dish size. Receiver-side apart, the larger the dish, the further south into France and Spain you'll get reception. This is real finger in the air without really checking, but a 1m - 1.2m dish will probably do all of France, but southern Spain is going to need a dish larger than will fit in the van

Maybe your friend would settle for BBC Prime, open on Hotbird on a much smaller dish via a patch for the Globecast UK version on 11117 V 27500. This has been open for donkeys, and is likely to remain so for a while yet.

Of course there is always an official subscription too. It's designed for ex-pats and travellers.
