If you mean getting all frequencies from a certain satellite then yes. I used this feature yesterday.

Hi all its me again, still having a bit of grief with this rs232 stuff. I thought I'd download the channel editor to see if that connects ok and guess what,it don't! I get the message "serial port probe error". Now the cable and PC port work fine with my fortec so I've convinced myself their not to blame. I'm going to live with it and use the sl65/12 as a spare fta which its pretty good at to be fair. I've also been granted permission to invest in a technomate 1500ci+, as the fortec is getting long in the tooth for decoding the interesting stuff. So I'll be bothering you in that section shortly!
thanks for indulging my incompetence,
sat bodger.

Hey, you're welcome. The SilverCrest boxes are good starter kit, but have their limitations.

Like roller-skates and first girlfriends, there comes a time when you just have to move on.

I have found a solution at long last, and not without some frustration on my part. I went off to maplins and got a usb to serial converter together with a null modem female to female rs232 cable (order code L718T). On its own the usb converter works as a straight through cable, so I connected the null modem cable between the converter and the sl65/12. Hey presto everything works, and I even got the patch on board and working! I have tried the null modem cable on its own on our old pc upstairs and its fine also. Now the embarrassing bit. Those have read through my previous posts in this thread will have noted me going on about the cable I already had for my fortec being fine and I couldn't work out why it wouldn't work. Well,it turns out that the fortec only uses a null modem for stb to stb data transfer. For loading softcams and the like it uses a straight through cable, and therein lay my problem.
So in brief I have learned three things, 1/ I should have checked my cable type better, 2/ Get a good quality null modem cable, and 3/ I've been a bit of a Pratt!
Mind you the person who never made mistakes never made anything.
Cheers,sat bodger.

Absolutely right. Glad your persistence paid off, and thanks for sharing. I had no idea about the Fortec using the two different cable types either.

I punched 'L718T' into the Maplin website, and got:

"Sorry, the product you are searching for is no longer available (discontinued)."

Was that for the null-modem cable, or the USB-Serial converter?

If you have a different code for the USB-Serial connector, could you please post it - as that's the bit that seems to cause the most problems.

That's because the code is L71BT not L718T
