The older versions of ProgDVB came with a free version of the Elecard decoders - now you have to pay for them (though they have been significantly improved.)

Whether they're worth $40 depends on how much individuals value them I suppose, but I wouldn't pay 40¢ personally.

You don't need the Elecard decoders, they're just nice to have. You can use ffdshow as remlap says.

4:2:2 is a slightly enhanced version of 4:2:0 which is the 'standard' mode for DVB-S. Search the forum, there are some good threads on the differences. Quite a few feeds use this slightly 'more professional' method.

You can get DVB-S mpeg-2 HD easily on your PC, DVB-S mpeg-4 HD needs a pretty fast box (not sure yours is quite up to the job of faultless decoding, but it's close), and the SS2 won't do DVB-S2. For that you'd need the Skystar HD.

Hi stick,I wouldn't pay 40¢ personally to.What might be good for members is where to get the old progdvb for free,ie so thay can use the elecard with 4.2.2 for free.Near all are out to make as much money as poss today arrrrrrrrrrrrr.Im old school here, but the sad thing is there not many of us left today.A bit back i tryed one of the new progdvb,no wonder the 4.2.2 never worked. So i just went back 2 a older version.I did look on the web for older ones, but it seems there gone where i looked.Good job i had my older ones backed up.hmmmmmmmmm

You can always make use of 'the wayback machine'. A brilliant archive of most any web page catalogued by date.

_http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.progdvb.com

Also, there are a number of older versions included on the current site which have the codecs. V4.56.2 was a good/stable release.

I currently run V4.73, though it doesn't get used much.

I have an Athlon XP-2500 with 1GB of RAM - and it has plenty in hand for SD.

The SS2 is totally superb. You simply have to get one.

I've spent a lot of time with a Twinhan 1020, but it packed up after a couple of years. They also have this terrible problem with heat. It's only made worse by the geniuses at the factory sticking a great big "VISIONDTV" logo all over the tuner's case. I recently got a Skystar 2 card to replace the Twinhan, and I've been impressed at just how plain good it is. Matches the Comag easily. It's a winner with me.
