Default HDMI HELP

Hi, My SKY HD was fitted today. I have a Hitachi 42PD870 and aftet the tv is switched off when I switch it back on I then have to press the manual button on the tv until it gets to the AV-5 channel. My remote control does not allow me to switch to AV-5 so I have a frustrating wait. Is there a way I can set the tv up so SKY comes up automatically.

Thanks for any advice.

Welcome to the forum Luciev.

Most panels have the option to select the default input. have you checked your setup to see if you have that option?

Hopefully one of our members may have a similar panel to yours and be able to give detailed help.

Hitachi replied via e-mail to say that there is no default setting facility! If anybody can think of a way round this. My daughter has to press the AV button seven times just to put the tv on in the morning. The remote control for the tv will also not allow me to press AV-5 directly.

The Sky HD remote should (if configured properly) also control your TV, and in doing so, should automatically change the television channel to the Sky box when you Press "TV' then "Sky" on the remote...

It does control my tv but when I switch the tv back on it automatically comes onto AV-1. If I press tv then SKY nothing happens, still have to press the button on the tv.

With the TV on, what happens if you turn the HD box off (standby) and then on again?

Not exactly nice, but if it works it sounds better that what you're having to do now... :?

If that doesn't work, what happens if you turn the HD box off at the wall and then on again (while the TV is on)?

With the tv on, if I put onto standby and then put back on it is fine. As soon as I put the tv on standby or turn off it goes back onto AV-1.

Right, look through your TVs menus, and try and find any-sort of 'Store' function, it may be tucked away with the brightness/contrast controls, or maybe even the custom-audio control's.. anyway, when you find it (and make sure you're on AV5) select 'Store', then try switching your TV off and back on...

This is really poor - Hitachi should hang their head in shame

Thanks for all of your help. You cannot store default channels on this Hitachi TV. They are promising to look at my remote control which should allow me to connect to AV-5 but doesn't!

How can you make a tv without having the facility to store a default channel!
