regarding a well known website that was discussed earlier on [i.e. alsat - edited by STICK as split from another thread and context lost], theres a load of very unhappy people over there, all moaning about 1 3pm sat kick off with a certain card that the site promotes..

The TM9100 is a real enthusiasts receiver. You've got to be real savvy, willing to spend hours screwing around with it and be prepared to go it alone.

A lot of hardware for the money, an open source platform, but bugger-all support and an unwillingness by those that hold the reins to help people help themselves.

Certain individuals have a hidden agenda, and the size and momentum to pull it off. They want to retain some degree of control. They want you to remain dependent. The same closed-shop system controls the Vantage setup. You are totally dependent on those that program for it. It's proprietary code. Nice boxes, but you have to look at the big picture.

The Dreambox is one of the only platforms where there is enough existing support, and enough code and expertise in the hands of numerous independent, genuine hobbyists to ensure it's longevity. Here, no one person or organisation has control. It's a truly open community.

i dont mine setting it all up its just the software irritated me only 2 images ur or juliet both not so good

i had enough of the rebooting, usals/diseqc 1.2 overshooting satellites, not finding satellites the list goes on

got taken in by the people bigging it up on the forum as something its not

found a forum for it but all it is a copy of alsat, same files and info

as i dont have a hdtv i'm waiting for dm8000 to come out then shall get the proper kit

its all bs with that forum

think you need to split these posts from the op topic

Agreed, and done.

I'm sure the support will get better for the TM9100 as some proper teams have now picked it up, but it'll probably be a long while before it's truly stable and the major bugs are eliminated. Get it out of the cupboard again in 12 months.

I have read that there is a new release available, UR10, that is supposed to fix a lot of the problems, if any 9100 owners wish to try it.

I agree 100% with Stick on this one. Linux boxes are nothing without the software support. With a bit of support they are the dogs danglies.

If anyone is throwing a 9100 out, let me know because I would like to spend a bit of time seeing what software can be adapted to improve things.

As for the comments about the sellers, they are sellers first and foremost so if you buy something you dont know how to operate then do a bit of learning, or put it down to experience.
