Default Newbie alert! What size dish do i need for 15 degrees West? + info on USA feeds

Hi,
so new to motorised sat systems its not even mildly amusing, actually havent even purchased my set up yet, trying to do a bit of research in advance as the Mrs is not into the idea of another dish on the house, really need to keep it 90cm's or less.
My main interest is feeds,in particular USA feeds including news, letterman etc.
I believe i have figured out that the CBS feeds are at 16 degrees east and i should pick those up fine with an 80cm+ dish?
I have also noticed people taking about other USA feeds on 15 degrees west, can anyone tell me if i will pick these up on an 80/90cm dish in Northamptonshire??

Many thanks in advance.

:welc1: to the site m8

I reckon you might be OK with a 90cm at you're location for 15W & 16E. A 1m would obviously be better, but if the wife says no then I suppose thats the end of the matter

Maybe a forum member from down that way might be able to give you a more definite answer

15w will need a 1m now whatever.

If your going to buy a dish just for American feeds then your sadly mistaken on what's out there.

Im looking forward to searching the sky for as many interesting feeds/channels as i can from as many different countries that a basic motorised set up will find me.
I must admit that being able to catch "The Late Show" with David Letterman, direct from the CBS feed on 16 degrees east is what made my mind up to give it a try.Hope i have not been mis-informed on that one though or i would be gutted! :?

Hiya m8,

If you want an idea of the sort thing you can watch via a feed then have a look at the link below, just delete the _ and copy and paste. You'll probably find most of these are sports or news feeds. I've no idea at all about American feeds :? I usually use feeds for sport

Just one more thing,i notice alot of those feeds state that the broadcast is in NTSC.Does this mean that i need a receiver that is capable of receivend/displaying NTSC or just a multi standard tv capable of displaying it?? :?

Thanks again

Probably both.

NTSC, PAL, SECAM dont really exist in terms of satellite its just the frame rate, broadcast resolution and Hz.

My Humax HDCI-2000 goes nuts when viewing non PAL Hz DVB. it can not handle the Hz it goes absolute insane, its the same for 1080i produced to the American standard.

RE: what's out there, I'm pleased to see your not just interested in American feeds, they are out there but not as what most average Joe expects, most think, you got a bigger dish I bet you get American tv with that :, the 15w feeds are basically there because of Mr Bush and Mr Blair, they are really for uplinking and downlinking stuff from Baghdad and everything else is a bonus so could go at any moment.

16e is basically news gathering, you get the odd reporter and most of CBS news output clean un produced and produced, and of course Letterman and Craig Ferguson if the CBS Satops are enjoying his monologue that evening.

You get the odd breaking news story from a local station every so often, whoever is willing to give their coverage to associated press or the like, if theres breaking news in their broadcast area.

Leno, Conan and whatever his name is after him is on 5e Sirius, this has been the home to Leno for many many years back to analogue days.

Dexter - note that the feeds on 15W very often encrypt for a few weeks at a time when theres too much interest in them on the satellite forums. (which leads to much annoyance on the boards!)

You must realise even the well established ones are subject to coming and going.
