Hmm, maybe not tonight The files are so completely different that a compare doesn't tell me anything right off the bat. I think I'll need some sort of file layout, though there does appear to be an altered header record.

My guess is that these files came from a completely different source originally. Do they both load, or only one? If only one, which is good?

I'll have to have a look at it over the weekend if I get a chance. If you know of a good repository of SL65-specific files, let me know.

Okay. It's not the same file format as a normal keys.bin by the look of it. Can't spend any more time right now. Must sleep

Right. It's completely different to the standard Humax/CAPi .bin file. That's why the converter doesn't work (I found a v2.0 BTW). It doesn't produce an error message, but it should.

I also tried ragabbaders excellent v7 editor - works fine on regular keys.bin files and softcam.key files converted & output by the converter above, but not on the proprietary SL65 files.

The layout is obviously different for a reason - probably to retain some degree of control over releases for the box.

I chucked a couple of binary analysis tools at it, but nothing obvious jumped out. As interesting as I find this, I don't want to be a sat-scene file-guy and I don't want to write an key-editor for the Silvercrest either.

The two files I looked at were so different that nothing useful showed up. If they had only been different by a single key value, it would have made the translation process much quicker - at least to begin with.

As far as I can tell, third party support for this box is both messy and patchy, if you'll excuse the pun.

I just came across something on sat-ulc which may help. It's described as "Keyeditor for ALI Chip firmware SW_SL65_A.bin. Imports softkeys from local and internet. Tested on SL 35 1 CI. Supposedly supports BISS and TPS. BISS not tested and TPS changed algo few days ago. No TPS.bins to play with for the testing."
It was dated 16/4/07 so obviously the keys aren't up to date but it may be the right tool.

I can't upload it here because it's nearly 4MB. If anyone wants to have a play then PM me and I'll send it to your off-board email address. I'd have a look myself but it's all a bit beyond me :?

Sol

Maybe someone has uploaded it to a free file host?

You could post a dead link to that if you could find one.

Ok, it's on this page _h**p://www.sat-ulc.com/ulc/jgs_db.php?action=showkat&katid=25&sid=&page=2 about halfway down - look for the posting date 16/4/07. Also there's another likely candidate dated 12/5/07 on the same page.
