Does anyone know of a good installer in Northants area please? (Or dare i DIY??)

Hi,i am a newbie to motorised systems,i've been doing my research and feel that as i am not a DIY genius then maybe i should get a "professional" to install/align it for me.
Had one quote of £280 inc vat which seems way too high,he felt it would take a full day to install??

I live on the Northamptonshire/Bedfordshire border,can anyone advise on a quality installer please?

Final thought,do you think i could do it myself? This whole USALS thing sounds like it takes alot of the hard work out?
Think i have decided on the Technomate 1500ci super with a 90/100cm dish,not too sure on the motor yet though or particually the type of bracket i would need.Would like to pick up loads of stuff but really interested in 16 degrees east amongst others.

Your advice on this would be invaluable.

Dexter, if you can use a spirit level, a spanner and a screwdriver you can do it yourself very easily.

The usual problem is balancing on a ladder while trying to work miracles. Follow the guides carefully and you will be more pleased than if you get someone else to do it.

Go for something like a Moteck SG2100A or a STAB HH-120 motor, and a good quality 1m dish - as long as it won't be too exposed to the wind.

As for fitting, the vast majority of problems that people encounter are due to difficulties with reading, not DIY.

It's not like buying a toaster. You need to read the instructions!

The other mistake people make (and this is far more forgiveable) is that they read too much. Like most things, if you read four different sets of instructions to perform the same task, you are going to get seriously lost and confused. Stick to one. I know I'm biased, but I believe our guide is the best there is.

I agree, the STICKs guide is v. good =] I used it to set up my motorised dish.

The only thing I would add is 'Always remember to tighten everything, even if it will take you an extra minute or two'...
A broken dish and motor is not a pretty site to see, I'll tell you that now...

As long as you have everything ready and prepared before you start, you shouldn't have any problems. You can assemble your dish/motor in advance. Plan the route for your c@ble. I even rehearsed waterproofing joints with self amalgamating tape. ops: - and then just wait for a fine, dry, wind free day. (I've heard that July 27th 2009 is looking promising at the moment).
