Default Newbie problems need advice

Have an Silvercrest 80 cm dish and lnb from lidl but they had no boxes in so i got an touchbox3 from maplins,
After loosing all my hair i finally got it to work but have problems on some channels, when i use the favorites i sometimes get no signal then it locks onto the channel, when i try film four it can take some time to get the channel and again no signal at times just says no signal.
I then got a loan of a sky digibox and installed it no problems on any channel so far no loss of signal locks onto every channel first time, does anyone know if these boxes have a problem.

I live in Scotland and this is my first venture away from sky any help would be appreciated

Hi pops. Welcome to the forum.

If your Sky digibox is working fine, then I suggest that the tuner in the Touchbox is maybe not as sensitive as the one in the digibox.

Now, this might not be what you want to hear ( ) but your dish alignment might need another tweak.

They are a budget dish, and under-perform slightly for their stated size.

What sort of signal strength and quality are you getting currently? There should be an indicator or two in one of the menus.

On the digibox it's Services, 4, 6, but I don't know about the Metronic.

Thanks for the help

Signal strength on the sky box is 90% Quality 80% on the touchbox3 it was Strength 70% quality 45 to 50% never any higher than 55%

The Silvercrest shows the same as the sky box.

Sorry, I don't get this bit. I thought you just had the SilverCrest dish? Are the figures you're quoting for both the Sky digibox and the Metronic Touchbox both using the same Silvercrest dish? Do you have any other dishes or receivers?

Which LNB do you have? The Lidl one?

If your testing is all on the one dish, I'd suggest that the Touchbox has a faulty tuner, and would return it for an exchange.

Sorry the figures are the lowest for the touchbox3 I was given a loan of Sky box on the Friday to try out and to make certain i also was given a silvercrest box to try out,Both the sky and silvercrest boxes show the highest readings i have a friend of mine that has been using free sat for a long time, and loaned the boxes to me.

Being an mechanical engineer i am used to diagnosing problems so i had the lnb replaced before i changed the box to rule that out, then started on the boxes.

Many thanks for the Help

Sounds like your testing is pretty conclusive to me, and it's the Touchbox that's at fault

I had a Touch box 3 as my first Receiver when i got my first set up a couple of months ago. It now lives in the bin As it was not very good. There is an update available for it (version 005) from Metronic here - http://www.metronic.com/UK/services/majTerm.htm ( hope that link doesn't break any rules as it is the manufacturer )
although the update itself is quite old it may help with your problems. ( unless your box already has that version of software ). I replaced mine with a Technomate 1500 super after catching the satellite bug and have never looked back.
