Just been chatting to a sky rep and he says i have to subscribe, he was a bit pushy asking if he could call me to arrange it now
also says i need to pay 25 pounds extra for manual configaration (no phone line)
do you think i could watch on my sisters account, could she ask for another card,

It is called Sky multiroom, and for that you need to have a phone line connected to both boxes. Apparently though if you don't they just charge you an extra subscription, which is what you want.

They won't let you take out two subscriptions at one address, but asking for multiroom and then not connecting the phone lines appears to be a way round it.

If you subscribe to any of the pay tv packs then sky+ functionality is included.

If you just have a freesatfromsky card or an expired subs card just used for C4 C5 etc then you have to pay a tenner a month for Sky+ functionality

Multi-room is the only Sly service that is actively "policed" - in order to avoid the wrath of Murdoch, you have to show all multi-room boxes on an account tied to the same phone number - they can (and do) ask boxes to "phone home" regularly - it seems they are paranoid about people taking out m/r subs and then passing the second card to others....

You may also hold fire for a while to see how things pan out after freesat launches because some people are speculating that Sly may/will drop the £10 charge currently levied for using Sly+ without subscribing to a Sly package. (Dunno if this will be borne out or even how soon, considering that it might take a while for freesat to gain foothold).

All that happens if you have multiroom and dont connect the phone lines is you get 2 warning letters then get charged full price for both subs....

What we have now is not freesat. It is Sky's twisted version of it called FreeSat from Sky.

The real Freesat will be transmited in the clear, and launches very soon. The boxes are already in Comet, No card is required.
