World news is probably one of the easiest things to get, because the majority of it is broadcast 'Free to Air', so you won't need any fancy equipment to receive it, a basic receiver should suffice (unless, of course, you motorise).
Check out lyngsat for details of what you can pick up. A [VERY] rough guide is that you will be able to pick up the satellites between 40East & 40 west. However, there are a lot in between that you simply cannot pick up because their beams are pointing away from the UK. If you want a basic setup, you should go for an 80cm dish, some T&K brackets, some cable & a receiver (Maybe a Lifetime Ultra Plus FTA Receiver, only £30?). This setup will be very in-expensive, if you shop around, it would be under £70, possibly under £60. You could use this setup for 13East, which has a lot of international channels. However, if you want to spend a bit more, motorising (and a better receiver) is the way to go, this would also allow you to do other things with your reciever, including the 'slightly-less-than-legal' reception of European subscription-television - much of which is broadcast in English ![]()
