Buffy, I've just been through a similar learning process with my SL65/12, except I'm in the South West and I have a 70cm dish. I can confirm what Stick said - alignment is everything. Get a cheap satfinder - it's much easier and more precise than using the on-screen display - I bought one from wizardsatellite.co.uk, about 13 quid including delivery.

I get about the same figures on my display that you mention when my dish isn't aligned. Your receiver is probably OK.

Also, I've read that it's not recommended to connect/unplug the LNB whilst the receiver is on - could damage the LNB.

Good luck!

Thanks to all the help, i have managed to get a signal on astra 28.2 and hotbird 13 E - all i can get is around a 1000 channels of arabic/sex/etc.... no UK channels - i am starting to suspect i need a 'Black dish' that is fitted to all the other houses..... this dish is oblong shaped but the wrong way up if you know what i mean, so i am assuming the dish needs to be flipped 90 deg - also i spoted a man installing a dish, and he said its ok here for freesat and showed me how to tweak the LNB so as Stick said - bigger dish!!! oh well more money :spite: can i set up the 2 do you think???? feeding into the one RX??? - god now i am getting good at this ops:

are you sure you ain't pointing you're dish at 19.2 rather than 28.2 as if you point it at 28.2 you should get English channels like the BBC and itv if you can get 13e then 28.2 will really be no problem also i assume you mean a sky mini dish when you say the black dish. Thats just a marketing ploy to make you think you need a special dish.
Infact where i used to live when you upgraded to sky digital sky just gave you a new lnb and moved your dish  :roflmao:

If you are getting loads of Arabic channels then you are on 13E

What I used to was find hotbird 13E then move the dish slightly to the left which got Astra 19E then keep moving left until Astra 28E came up. Hotbird is slightly higher than astra 19E and astra 28E is the lowest of the three so you need to move the dish slightly to the left and a fraction down. Its worth all the messing about to get whats out there believe me
