Default Gifs for avatars?

I have changed my avatar to the fergie one when he thought Tevez had scored in the Derby on Sunday. Do gifs not work with this forum software?

How big was the image you originally uploaded (in pixels?)

It may be how SMF is resizing it. If it's bigger than 120 x 120 it gets resized and converted into a .png, which is what has happened to your Fergie avatar. More avatars than not have been converted automatically in this way, so it's something odd about your picture.

I can only suggest that the base image did not conform properly to .gif standards and the conversion also ended up a bit screwy. That's just a shot in the dark though.

Can you view it correctly below?

This is copied straight out of the avatar directory on the server.

the gif I downloaded is 1.88mb and 160x128 pixels but as long as it works for some I am happy because its one of the funniest things I have seen in ages

I can see the .png file but it isn't animated.

LOL, I didn't realise it was animated!

_http://gifworks.com is a neat place where you can resize animated .gif files online and for nout.
