nano m8 you must tell guys on the vantage
At the end of the day Sid its personal preference

The Technomate is a perfectly good receiver which will do what most people want it to do. Its easy to use, has fantastic support which is why i recommend it to people. As far as I'm aware at the moment everything that is open on the Vantage is open on the Technomate which is the main thing for most people :?

I can understand that the vantage is better for what you use it for i.e Blind scanning for feeds but for general free viewing of encrypted channels i wouldn't say theres a lot in to be honest, maybe quicker channel changes etc etc

I will admit that i was tempted by the Vantage before i purchased my second Technomate, but after looking round various forums etc etc i couldn't find as much support for the Vantage which is why i plumped for the Technomate in the end. I don't know if the situation has changed now :?

At the end of the day for the beginner in this hobby i think the Technomate is a fantastic receiver to start with as like i said before it has fantastic support, Is easy to use and its a lot easier to get one as there are more Technomate retailers in the UK than there are Vantage ones

Its inevitable that one day support for the Technomate 1000 series will dry up and maybe then the Vantage will be king but until that day happens i'm sticking with the my 1000D

I think I have to agree with Sid here, im not in this hobby for free tv, I don't even watch more than 5 minutes on one channel.

Blind Scan if is really as good as its cut out to be on the Vantage the 50 quid one really does look interesting.

Be nice now if some the friendly Koreans realised there's a demand for cheap 422 receiver with good blindscan.

I've only ever seen the combined satellite/DTT box available in the UK, and I wouldn't buy a combined receiver. I like my boxes separate.

If Vantage were to sell the FTA-only sat box here for £60, then it might be a contender. Especially if it proved itself in terms of support for patches - which is what most people who come here want to be able to do.

I have no problem buying stuff from Germany, but many people would baulk at this option. The Technomates probably outsell the Vantage 50:1 in the UK.

If I don't manage to get something off of ebay what sort of money am I looking at for the tech 1500ci and a 1 m dish with brackets lnb and cabling?

I found the receiver at £94. plus p&p so far.

Is there a newbies guide on the terminology and setting up these things in pdf format anywhere?

Things I don't know:

What is a CAM?
Whats an actuator?

thanks for help guys

Right then mate, Unless you are intending to buy a subscription card you won't need a TM 1500 a TM 1000 will do the job fine. You can get them for £50-60 each

You can get a 1m dish for £30 upwards depending on what sort of quality you want. Have a look at ebay items 260151494994 & 260152098378

I myselfy would go for 260152995901 Its a bit bigger than you asked about but its a better quality dish than the other 2

Cam = Conditional access module. Its basically what you put the subscriber card into.

An actuator basically moves the dish. Both are pictured below

Thanks mate. Yeah I wasn't bothered about buying subscription cards so will go for the tech 1000. On looking there seem to be 2 models a 1000d and a 1000ci. Which is the one I should be looking at?

Will go for that one then , thanks nano.

As you said in your first reply to me I could get disney channel on astra 1 19.2e. Found this list of channels here:

_http://www.satellites.co.uk/satellite/conax-cryptoworks-nagravision-nds-others/65662-premiere-channel-list-astra-19-2e.html

as you said it does have disney. Once I get my system set up to this feed should I be able to get that channel or do I need anything else - ie: is it encrypted?

No live links to other forums please

We'll quite happily answer whatever questions people ask. It goes in cycles - there are a lot of 'patch' related questions at the moment because of the new football season.
