Hi All,
I found your forum and find it very interesting. I am in the process of adding my SKYSTAR USB to my new HP laptop but I am having a problem that I cannot find an answer for. I hope you can help. I downloaded and attempted to install the Technisat software for version 4.4.1 which is intended to be for Vista but it will not recognise that I have got Media Player 11 installed. It states in the wizard it is looking for version 9 or above which it cannot find. The wizard then closes. Does anyone have anything to offer. (The same problem arises on ver 4.4.0) Thanks in advance.v ![]() |

Hi Curious1. Welcome to the forum.
I guess the combination of Vista and Skystar USB is still fairly uncommon, and I'm afraid that I don't run any of this software. Fingers crossed that someone will spot this and have some idea. All I can suggest is that you try un-installing V11, install V10 from here, install the Skystar stuff, and then upgrade again. Yeah, I know. It's pants!

You could try installing the file in XP compatibility mode...
Right click the installation file > Properties > "Compatibility" tab > Tick "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and choose "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)" from the drop-down list. Click OK as many times as it wants you to, and give it another try. However, if that fails, you could just install the drivers manually and then use a third-party piece of software. I'm certain there's software out there (ProgDVB, perhaps?) that supports the USB version of the SkyStar 2. |

Yeah, I've used the backwards compatibility trick on installers successfully before (9.x ==> XP). Doesn't always work, but worth a go.
Getting any viewer apps to work on Vista is difficult. AltDVB works with a fight, but should run with the SS2-USB OK.

Hi Thanks for all the advice I have been getting but none works so far. Can you advise me on how to find the SS2 that everyone keeps mentioning. I have the current vista beta release for SKYSTAR 2 ver 4.4.1.
The only issue I have so far is getting the damn thing to accept that media player 11 is installed so the installer does not keep exiting. Thanks |

SS2 is just short for SkyStar 2 - unless I've misunderstood what you meant, and made myself look stupid
![]() I'm using the 4.4.0 release fine on Vista. The drivers in that package are all you need, really - extract 441B20070306web.zip to a folder, then use Device Manager to search for drivers in that folder. Hopefully everything will go to plan, and your card will be installed - you can then use DVB Dream to access the card. It's not the Technisat software, but it does the job. This is the method I used, so hopefully it'll be okay for you! |

Hi Rocket
Thanks for the info. I have done what you suggest but the problem is that becasue the technisat s'ware will not go beyond the cross checking stage it does not install the server4pc which both programs state they need to function correctly. This is mentioned in the pre-requisite section of the help file in DVB Dream. Do you know of a way to install the server4pc files ? |

I'm afraid I don't... Try running System File Checker. This sort of bizarre behaviour can be caused by messed up file installations (perhaps HP put a weird, custom version of WMP11 on their systems?)
Start > Run > sfc /scannow Here's another idea, if that turns up no problems: install the Technisat software on another PC, then copy the files over to your own. Hopefully, setup4pc.exe will run without any problem if you just move it over. Chances are it won't work, but it's certainly worth a try. |

This is a strange one but I have sorted one problem out !
I do not know why I tried this but I transferred the download files to a second drive (my HP is a dual drive laptop). When I ran the install program it went in smoothly without any problems and now I have the server and setup4pc installed and a lock on my USB device. The transponder seems to be recognised. All I need to do now it seems is get the picture into the dvbviewer ! At least I know I have a signal Thanks for everyones advice. I just hope this helps some one else...... ![]() |
