Nilesat In West Midlands
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Okay guy's, Here are the results on the following. I purchased a 2.4 m fortec from mapXXX and a C120 Feedhorn and LNB to go with it. The results were dissapointing we pulled in all the vertical transponders using a technomate 1600 cI between the times of 5pm and 8.30 pm with signal of around 55% and quality of around 47%. However the horizontal transponders which we all want for the football we could not get we can scan them and they appear in the technomate menu with signal and quality of around 30% which was difficult to hold. Has anybody actually picked up this bird as i was convinced that my location and dish size would of been enough. The feedhorn and Lnb which came as an addition to the dish seems to be a little small for the 2.4m dish. Myself and my satellite engineer took a portable tv and Technomate 1500 series and 1600 series to the top of the garden to test it. I am based in the Midlands Birmingham and would be interested if anybody in this area is picking up the vertical and horizontal frequencies and getting a better signal and quality than what i have reported. Many thank's |

Probably not much use to you mate, but i have managed to get some of the Vertical Transponders on a 90cm dish, although this was late at night and the sky was crystal clear

Hi m8 with a 2.4 m fortec dish that say are not any where near as good as a channel master dish.Iv never used a 2.4 m fortec dish before,so can just go on here say.I have a 1.8 channel master dish & pick up some hor signels @ late night or am time. This is only in very good wether that i can see some hor signels, any cloud or rain & there gone. You could try piggie backing the signel here, this will up your signel a bit.To do this your need to modify your lnb so it faceing away from your dish. Now @ the end of the dish arms your need some sort of flat plate to reflect the signel back to your dish. This is not easy to do but can be done.

Wow you have posted this on every sat forum on the net it is theads like this that gave the 1.8m and 2.4m fortec star dishes a bad name in the first place as people who ain't got a clue buy them then they pay some so guy who calls himself a engineer because he has installed a 80cm dish on hotbird,
I did post some where on another forum i tested nilesat at work around the UK over the last few weeks, when i was working in the midlands and was installing a 1.8m Andrews for the BBC dab mux on Sirius 2 at a transmitter site and before i put the norsat dbs band c120 lnb i pop a invacom c120 on to the feed horn and tested the dish on nilesat 7'w and the horizontal transponders came in loud and clear, Also i see by you post the guy who installed it (so called engineer) ain't got a clue and as he used a portable tv to set this dish up says it all a spectrum analyzer is a must on a dish like this. How did he put the petal together when i put a petal dishes together i always use a laser kit or if worse comes to worse i string this dish but a laser kit is best as it gets the dish within 0.5mm in to shape remember the dish only needs to be less than 1mm out of shape to make your your 2.4m dish act as a 90cm dish, I use to have a 1.8m fortec star and it does work at the gain in the spec and was as good as my 1.8m prodelin same goes for the 2.4m fortec star i have put one together for a friend and it does work to the gain in the spec it is just 99% people can not install them correct, Quote:

Message for RD100. Are you saying mate that with a 2.4 fortec dish if it is set up properly you can get the horizontal transponders on Nilesat for sure.
