Default Is this possible?

I want to change an entire motherboard in my laptop machine. Does anyone know if it is possible. If yes then from where I can get an updated motherboard for dell inspiron. I want one that can hold at least 1 GB of RAM.

In a shell, yes. You will only be able to swap it for any improved motherboard that was originally designed for the same model. Laptops are as a rule designed as a finished product.

If you can get the motherboard with the sockets for additional RAM, you can do it.

I would suggest that you look around for something you like, and make sure it has the RAM capa you want.

Well, consider that Dell usually offer strange, pre-made Dell motherboards in all of their desktops, and so probably do the same for their laptops!

Also, it's a very major thing - you'd need to fiddle about trying to make sure everything goes in the right place and that everything is compatible and the correct speeds and voltages - just out of interest, which Dell Inspiron model do you have?

I'm not really familiar with the insides of computers especially laptops. Depending on the rest of the components in your laptop, would it not be better to buy a new one? Its just for me I wouldn't be very happy taking my laptop apart, but if you are confident I'm sure it can be done but like dnc said making sure that everything is compatible is essential if you ever want to use your laptop again

If you only want to change the RAM, most laptops have a slot for it on the bottom...other than that, Im sure you could try changing out motherboards, but it would just end up costing more than it would be to buy a new laptop IMO.

unless youre really good or a total laptop pro i would just buy another one. im assuming youre not though or else you would've been able to answer your own question no offense. but i just think it would be easier to get a new one.
