Default Whats your favorite Satellite Receiver

I just thought i would be a good poll to see what are the favorite receivers people on this board are using and what you think of them for support, ease of use, quality etc etc.

You can vote for 1 receiver of choice

Please feel free to say why you like or dislike any particular receiver

Comag and PC card! Hooray!

I've always found the Comag to do its job well (even though it does give me some nasty little electric shocks) and I really like the brightly glowing red and yellow LEDs on the front. I've always loved bright, glowing LEDs as a kid, so if you want me to buy something, put glowing LEDs in it and you've got a sale.
That and it was £50.

I have to mention the PC card, though - the biggest plus of which is the ease of recording transport streams, the way you don't have to go through a load of menus with a remote control and it's a key part in streaming satellite television across networks and the Internet.

The PC card gets more use nowadays, what with the streaming and that, but I wouldn't ever get rid of the Comag.

I have to go firstly for Technomate - as this is what I own, and secondly for DreamBox, which is on my wish list. But I have also heard that the Vantage is quite a good box too.

For use in UK/Europe, I will go for the Technomate; specifically the Technomate 1500 CI - because it's decent receiver and currently enjoys good support. (I know about the vantages n dreamboxes but have not used them before ... so).

For my second choice, I want to plug a receiver, Hivion 9090x that is not well known here (UK/Europe) but that imho is better than the Technomate ---- and enjoys at least equal support (in appropriate places on the Net) as the Technomate. Basically, the Hivion 9090x does most things that the TM does (good tuner; readily available patches e.g. recent Showtime; brilliant OSD and EPG; up to 24 channel thumbprint preview) as well if not better. The only thing I've never checked is whether it has a blind scan; hopefully, I'll be able to check this in the next couple of months when the receiver and I meet up again.

Finally, although not making the top two, honourable mention is due to the Fortec 5400; it has a very super tuner; and I've found it's not so bad for opening "viewable" channels with codes entered by remote control. It also has a better approach to its menu in some respects than the TM. (Trivia: I bought my first FS 5400 for 18 pounds on ebay; almost brand new and collected locally, so no postage! I still use it when trying for difficult satellites like 26E)

I like the powerful toys and the flexibilty to do pretty much whatever can be done. The Skystar 2 because it does stuff that not even the Dreambox can do (and for £40?! I still have to pinch myself...), and the Dreambox because it does most of what the Skystar can do, but on my TV

Apart from my kids, these are the best two things I have ever purchased.

I'm with Yorks, word for word plus:-
The technomate is so easy to use, and plenty of support.
Just got to hope my hard disk recorder breaks, so it will give me a good exuse to also get a Dreambox with Hard disk.

For me it is Linux all the way Now that I discovered the joy (and curses too) of having Linux on TM9100, I'll never go back to conventional receivers. Unless Topfield will start making cheap networked dual tuner patchable PVR of course

Well I've had to go for the TM 1*** series because it's just so easy to use

Another reason is that I've only ever used that and a Skystar The Skystar's great for 4:2.2 feeds, though I've never quite found it as user friendly as the TM

Me i like ss2 card as i like feeds. Now 2 receivers. Most of you say tms here as your favs,i can guess why that is,as youv never used a vantage receiver. So for receiver & its price i have to go for the vantage here. Why i pick this over the tms is for these things.No1 its blind scanning,No2 the cams that are built init,No3 on its patches things come out farster for watching pay tv than the tms.NO4 its very easy on patching or to update with a softcam,i will give the tms the same here on No4,but not the other 3 iv said.
