Hi...Apologies this is a long one!
Many thanks to all of your help so far, with this help I now know what to buy. I have spotted a Technomate 1000D receiver for 49GBP and a 90cm dish package for 79GBP (see link below). http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MOTORISED-95CM...QQcmdZViewItem Re. the above dish, can anyone advise whether the motor/LNB will be already attached or not? If not, is it easy to do, are there any tutorials on line, etc? Also is this a good deal??? Do I need anything else other than my DigitAlb card???? Now for the big issue....trees!!!!! I have enclosed some pics of the view at the back of our house. My builder says I could fix the dish to the side of the chimney which is apparently strong enough even in wind! On the pics I have marked south and 16DE, what I believe I need to view DigitAlb. There is also a picture of next door with a Sky dish that works, and on the same pic, my chimney (which is approximately the same height as the trees). As you can see on the pics, the gap in the trees appears (on my compass) to be at around 16DE????? I live in Shrewsbury in Shropshire, and if it helps my house is situated as follows.... Latitude....52:41:24N Longitude...2:45:58W The simple question is, am I buggered or not, and if so, to what extent? Is it worth investing in the above kit and card. Many thanks for your help in advance! Anthony ![]() |

The kit you mention looks good, and fair value. Don't know what the LNB is, but it should be OK, if not stunning.
The coax however isn't the best. RG6 might be high-grade for TV, but it's low-grade for satellite. It will do, but WF100 cable is far superior. The LNB won't be fitted. It's a piece of cake. The motor won't be fitted either. That's not so easy, and the guide is here: http://www.satellitehelp.co.uk/forum...pic,401.0.html Gotta pop out. I'll look at your photos/trees later ![]()

Those trees look very tall, but photographs can be very deceptive, when trying to gauge height and distance. A diagram, with aproximate heights and distances would be helpful.
If you set your dish, and motor, up on your extension, using a couple of strong T & K brackets and a good pole, you should get a full arc of all satellites East and West. The S*y dish is pointing at 28.2E, so your position looks excellent for setting up a motorised dish, and the extension looks purpose built for an easy installatation, not too high off the ground to make the installation difficult, but high enough to give a clear line of sight to all satellites, and far enough away from the neighbours so noise shouldn't be an issue. |

Or on the rear-facing wall on the upper story. You might need the extra height. Avoid chimney mounting if at all possible. It really isn't the best solution for a large dish.
You might be lucky with the trees and alignment.

I agree with Mickha,
Without knowing the height and distance away ( or the angle) of the tree you won't be able to work out whether you would clear it. Although the required dish elevation for 19.2E from your location is about 26.5 degrees and reasonably high. If the tree's in the way though, you could always get a cheap minidish that may be small enough for a chimney mount just for 19E, or alternatively use it to carry out a survey. |

The following site will guide you through setting up a dish to receive the Astra satellites, in terms of dish height and how far from objects you have to be to guarantee a signal. Obviously not perfect for a motorised dish, but it's a start.
http://www.ses-astra.com/consumer/si...tant/index.php I hope this helps. Cheers, Roman |

trees shouldn't be a problem as i have trees in my view and got a dish up and get 42e-30west as they are about 20 metres away from the dish
it all depends on the distance how far away they are to the proposed dish location and how high they are as whether the dish will see over them chimney install is a very big no no as fine for a mini dish at a push but motorised no way as the chimney would come through the roof if the dish got taken off in a gust of wind you might be able to mount it on t&k brackets so the dish is above the guttering abit on the wall next to that drain pipe
