Default GlobeCast experiments with non-compressed HD

GlobeCast is to experiment with long-distance, terrestrial transport of non-compressed HD signals during the Rugby World Cup being staged in France next month. The France Telecom company has been selected to provide contribution services in HD and SD. It will supply end-to-end satellite and fibre contribution services for the host broadcaster TVH as well as other major broadcasters.

The non-compressed HD signals are designed to help telcos transport HD video without modifying infrastructures, updating equipment or compromising quality. The tests will take place during matches held in Marseille. An SD backup satellite feed will be available throughout the tournament.

A fleet of 15 SNG vehicles will move around the country including three trucks dedicated to HD. On-site production, dedicated facilities and network capacity will also be available.

The tournament begins on September 7.
