Default Sick britain

I read an article in a national rag last week about how much society has degraded in the last x number of years.

My wee lassie went to school with the 7 year old who pulled a knife on a 9 year old and stabbed him.

WTF is going on now. :?

Haven't got a clue myself.

Done a lot of stupid things in my life, but none nasty.

Makes me wonder.

I have to agree m8. I thought that maybe it was all media hype, but the more time passes the worse it seems to get.

Just such a lack of respect for people and indeed their very lives. Kids killing kids is about as bad as it gets, surely.

I'm not exactly Victorian in my principles, but children have to be well disciplined and taught some basic values, and that just doesn't seem to be happening in a growing number of families now.

Other than that, I just don't know what the answer is.

I blame whinning do-gooders that wave the "Human rights" flag. It is because of them kids realized that they have all the rights and no responsibilities.

Although it will probably never happen (due to the human rights brigade), I think the first thing that needs to be done is to bring discipline back into the schools.

When I was at school there were kids who had no discipline at home, but they experienced it at school, from an early age, and realised that they had to tow to the line. Every now and then - when they over stepped the mark, they were reminded of this.

Unfortunately there has been a generation that has grown up without discipline, some of who have no respect for others, and who are passing on their immoral values to their children.

It nearly makes me weep when you hear of youths abusing old people, who at a similar age were fighting for their country.
God knows what horrors they had to experience. On Remembrance Day to see a 90 year old shedding a tear for his best mate, who he lost 70 years ago - and who never had a life, brings a lump to my throat.

Maybe National Service is the answer.

Yorks.

(Glad I got that off my chest).

I feel the same. Respect for those who have earned it is a two-way thing. It's great to feel respected, but in a way it's a much better feeling to have deep respect for those that have done something special, or even just been there for us - families, friends etc.

It's not even a single generation that have lost all sense of proportion now. We're seeing the dawn of a second generation that have lost the plot - and to a greater extent still.

I really worry about the future. I'm all for a bit of anarchy in some respects, but maybe we're heading for something much more uncertain. A world without respect is a frightening prospect.

When you see some of today's teachers, they're just as clueless as the pupils - but there have been several generations now who have not a clue about discipline or standards of behaviour.

When we were at school in the 1960s there was the Lochgelly Special - a leather belt with three prongs (that was the deluxe version) and miscreants received up to six strokes on each hand if they contravened the rules. But I have to say that it didn't happen very often and it was a last resort, so not an excuse for alleged sadists to thump pupils. It taught us right from wrong - but we knew that anyway!!

Nowadays if a teacher called a pupil a mental pygmy it is an insult to pygmies, mental or otherwise!!

I think people should have to pass a test before they are allowed to become parents, and some existing parents need to be sterilised ASAP because they are just stupid . Some Kids need a bloody good hiding as well, never mind all this namby pamby don't hit children crap >

I think its got something to do with the ever growing 'Get a kid, go on the dole and get a council house' lifestyle that is becoming increasingly popular (and, increasingly unpopular with the rest of the country).

I think the problem is only going to get worse. I mean, if your brought up in a negative fashion, your going to end up doing that with your own kids and the cycle will go on. Its a shame, but what can be done? I've experienced 1st hand a 'rough' 21st Century school, and I can tell you now, its not a pleasant place to be, the teachers try to discipline the pupils, but they can't. 32 Angry Under-Educated Pupils versus 1 Teacher?

Thats a review of a School I used to attend (before I promptly got my parents to transfer me out of there ), now that was truly nightmareish - I'll tell you now. There were (and I'm not joking) pupils who took their children to school.

1). Good parenting skills to be taught in schools.

2). National Service/Bad Lads Army. (Rather than giving the young reprebates an easy time in Youth Prison with X-Box and pool tables).

3). Public flogging. (Oh no, I'm getting carried away again). :
