Software giant Adobe Systems has upgraded its internet video application to support the H.264 standard for video compression, otherwise known as MPEG-4 Part 10 or AVC (Advanced Video Coding). The Flash 9 player software, codenamed Moviestar, also supports High Efficiency AAC (HE-AAC) audio support.
Adobe said the upgrade would "extend Adobe's leadership position in web video by enabling the delivery of high-definition television and premium audio content through the ubiquitous Adobe Flash Player". "Adobe is committed to providing a seamless creation-to-playback solution that allows creatives and developers to produce video and rich-media once, and then deploy that content across the widest array of distribution and playback environments," said John Loiacono, senior vice president of creative solutions at Adobe. Adobe said Flash player content is able to reach 98% of internet-enabled PCs as well as a wide range of other devices. The latest version of Flash 9 is now available in beta from Adobe Labs.
