Sony Electronics has selected Opera Software's web browser for its new Bravia Internet Video Link, a module that attaches to the back of new Bravia televisions and allows viewers to access selected free internet video content. Opera's browser will enable video content to be streamed from content partners such as Yahoo! and A'OL.
The internet module links Bravia TVs through HDMI and USB connections. "Sony has realised the potential of internet video on the TV, and Opera is excited to contribute to this breakthrough product," said Scott Hedrick, senior VP for business solutions at Opera Software. The Bravia Internet Video Link is currently planned for deployment in the US only. Oslo-based Opera also supplies browser solutions to makers of mobile phones and PCs.
