Default Satellite & terrestrial subtitle options

I notice that some television programmes, particularly BBC, suddenly stop send subtitles (I have a wife with hearing problem) but you can get often and at the same time get subtitles on the satellite version of the same channel ( the Technomate does subtitles AND you can record them onto videotape using an ordinary video machine). I wonder why the BBC can do subtitles on satellite but not always on Freeview. When they stop on Freeview they also stop on terrestial analogue. ITV's subtitles, ont heother hand, sometimes only cover about every third sentence. Any one else noticed the same?

Yeah I have, the subtitling in the country is messed up totally. From what I gather there are the following different ways of getting subtitles:
  • Analogue over Satellite Subtitles (888)
  • Digital Satellite Subtitles (Though the Sky Box)
  • Analogue Terrestrial (888)
  • Digital Terrestrial Subtitles
  • Analogue over digital c@ble subtitles (888)
  • Digital c@ble Subtitles

Now you'd think they'd all carry the same subtitles for the same channels, but often - they don't. Sometimes you can get the subtitles only though analouge, and not through the 'digital side' of it. The bad thing about this is, that you can't record them using a normal VCR (you can with the Digital ones because they are overlayed by the box, not the television).

What I do find weird is that the analogue 'teletext' service is still transmitted via. satellite, when most channels also carry a digital interactive service :P.

Sort it out guys

Woah, did I go off topic there, or what?? ops:

Naah, not off topic, the availability of subtitles to some people may be a major factor affecting their decision.
My mum has hearing difficulties, mine's OK, but one of my sons may have problems in the future.

I also find subtitles useful on spanish or portugese channels as I can read Spanish(guess portugese) but have
difficulty with the speed of spanish speech.

Default Re: Satellite & terrestrial subtitle options

Well, as I said at the beginning, you can video record subtitles out of the Technomate - very useful!!
