Evening All,
I'm in a similar position to Tom, who seems to have helpfully beat me to it! ![]() I know little about sat systems (never even had sky) but I am quite techie otherwise, so am hoping to learn quick, and save cash by doing all the work myself... assuming there's some people out there to help?! ![]() The idea I get so far is: 1. we can't get Colombian sat broadcasts, cos we can't "see" the sats (I guess we're talking trigonometry here?). 2. we can get Colombian/Latin American channels, on "30w" which is presumably meant for South American ex-pats in Spain (anyone got a channel list? REALLY need at least one Colombian channel to make this worthwhile for my wife!! ) 3. we could get loads of FTA Spanish (i.e Euro) channels. 4. £90 buys me a receiver 5. £100ish gets me a motorised 90cm-1m dish (does it need to be that big? Do I need planing permission?? Will my neighbours revolt?!) 6. On top of this I can add in optional costs like PVRs etc, but I could get viewing for under £200? Did I miss anything? (other than days of fiddling with cables and remotes, angles, brackets, cutting down line-of-sight preventing trees, etc etc!!) Sounds great! ![]() Cheers (and Gracias!) James. PS: If I want European Spanish channels only, what would the £60 set in Lidl give me? (I apologise in advance if the mere mention of such naff kit is offensive!!) ops: |

@JamesUK,
Sounds like you've pretty much got it. I don't know what the kit in Lidl includes, but it is a free to air receiver, so will only get you the free channels. It will still allow you to connect a motor though, so you will still get all the sats that the dish is big enough for. You don't need planning permission for a dish upto 1m ( excluding conservation areas etc). Will your neighbours revolt? Don't know, but they can't do anything about it if its 1m or less. Yes you can have smaller, it just limits your choice. My neighbours are revolting, so my motorised dish is a minidish and I am limited, ( but I have a 90cm tucked away for 30W) altough I can get 13E,19.2E.28.2E and 42E on it (no view west), unless it really really chucks it down. For channel lists consult http://www.lyngsat.com http://en.kingofsat.net or http://www.flysat.com. Yes, easily get viewing for less than around £200 (Moteck motor for £40, dish for £39) plus there's c@ble, pole, and T-K bracket etc to buy. £90 will get you a technomate TM1500CI+ for example with a CAM slot and a card slot, or a FTA version TM1000D for about £60.

Welcome to the forum James.
I have split your post into a separate subject, to save things getting messy. The answers to your post may get different from tomphillips replies. Obviously it will be worth reading both topics and see what answers appear. Hopefully you will get answers that are more specific to your needs.

Hi James and Robbo
May I join in? ![]() I looked at http://www.lyngsat.com/freetv/Colombia.html From what I have understood so far these satellites NSS 806 & Hispasat 1D are unavailable from the UK unless the dish was bigger than 1 metre (which I don't want). I think I am going to have to stick with Euro Spanish. Most advice seems to suggest that a motorised dish will give me more Euro choices. It is feasible that a new (charged) service will appear that will offer Colombian channels. Is that a good summary? Tom |

Basically if you need a new receiver you might as well go for one thats patchable so you can open up some of the Pay to view channels for nothing
The Spanish package D+ is wide open at the moment and can be viewed on a variety of receivers ![]() The best supported receiver at the moment i would say is the Technomate 1000 series. Starting from about £50 upto £99 depending on which model you go for ![]() If you go motorised go for one ot the Moteck SG2100 models, preferably the A or Super motor. I've got one and it works perfectly everytime ![]() With regards to dish size I would recommend at least a 90cm dish. Why you ask? well i see it this way, if you go motorised you may aswell go for a dish that will give you as many of the channels as you can get. Anything under 90cm and your going to miss quite a few channels The SG 2100 motor can comfortably handle a dish upto 1.1m and upto 1.2m if its in a sheltered place away from the full force of the wind. You can install upto a 1m dish without planning permission under current UK laws ![]() Quote:
It may have been the case with the old Hispasat 1A and 1B birds but the new 1C and 1D birds are a lot more powerfull than their predecessors ![]() Hope this helps ![]() Nano

Hispasat 1A & 1A ? :roflmao: Altered it now -
NanoThat will have been Hipposat 1A and 1B of course ![]() Both low powered, a rubbish signal in the UK and fortunately long retired. 1C and 1D are putting huge signals into the UK :clap:

Yes, as Nano has said, Hispasat can easily be received in the UK. But it appears that the only Colombian channel is beamed at the northern part of Columbia unfortunately. http://www.telecaribe.com.co/ senal > cubrimiento poblacional>mapa general de cubrimiento.
