![]() not sure if it's the right place to ask, if not will post to another section, but: With all my interconnections and flexibility to route different bits of cable there and back between rooms I ended up with quite a few F-F joints. If I am to believe a specialist, each F-F coupler takes about 20% of the signal. 1. is it true? 2. can then in-line amplifier be placed somewhere and disecq motor and or switch still work in such setup?

Would be better in another thread, but briefly:
F connectors vary, but a coupler is almost two joints. Maybe somewhere nearer 10% would be more accurate. I'm definitely not an expert. An amplifier might give you a little of that back, but I doubt it would be worth the expense, or even give you a noticeable improvement. I really try and minimise joints, but sometimes they're unavoidable. That's why I don't like to use wallplates. In the real world, I might notice a 2% indicated signal drop by adding a connector, but that's not very scientific I guess. So don't panic, just minimise.

Yes, I've heard 3dB, but don't seem to experience that much at all. 3dB is quite a lot (... goes hunting for logarithmic tables and gets distracted by something else. Anything else in fact...)

Thanks all,
I'll have to join a number of couplers together and plot the signal dissipation graph, I just got to know. Oh, insistently got a question about different cables, but will post it in another thread.

We used to get dragged to Jodrell Bank every year with school (it's only down the road). I have to say I preferred the trips to Alton Towers more.
