BSkyB is preparing to offer Internet access without insisting that it is bundled in with a satellite television subscription. BSkyB CEO James Murdoch has been testing a standalone service – tentatively known as Picnic B - that will allow it to serve customers who are not interested in a satellite package.

I don't see how that will serve customers who are interested in Broadband though? :?
More reliable to shout down a length of damp string.

Let's just say it was pretty conclusive.

Personally, I've never had an issue (once I'd sorted out the crappy router) with Sky Broadband. I've been up now with no disconnections for well over 2 months, and I get consistent 12Mbit speeds. I also love how they don't restrict torrents, I download on average about 400GB a month (whole family). I honestly think, that if they sort out their crappy routers, then they'll have a decent service*
*Apart from the customer support, obviously

My connection grinds to a halt for a few minutes maybe three or four times a day (but frees up on it's own), and then hits a brick wall at between 11:30pm and 12:30am every night requiring at least one reboot.
To me, that indicates that the router is probably fine, but that they are perhaps performing some sort of maintenance either at the exchange or on one or more of their servers. I'm sick of it and they day I can switch to someone else can't come too soon. I find transatlantic connections the worst. Sometimes I can get around it by using a proxy, but I won't use that for password-protected stuff like the forum, as it's not secure. In sort, at my place, it stinks.
