No I'm not confusing this this forum with XXX! Contemplating mounting my dish on my garden shed. Anyone had similar experience, tips or other problems??

I have a 90cm dish mounted on a 3" by 2" piece of timber nailed to a carpenters work horse with a paving slab and a bag o' sand on it. Been there 6 months and its still ok on 30W.
It is a very sheltered location and very low down though. Depending on the dish size, I would have thought that a shed would be Ok, as long as its sturdy. It also might need re-aligning now and again.

What ever you fix it to, needs to be firmly anchored to terra firma. Especially if you have a motorised system - and needs to be able to take the weight of the installation, and the stresses of the wind.

I've just read your other post.
I didn't realize it was a motorized setup you were going for. That's a bit more tricky, as the pole needs to be rock solid and perfectly vertical. I would have thought you'd be better off concreting a pole in the ground, or a sturdy ground mount.

They can be mounted to sheds but the shed needs to be very solid or the dish will move or the shed will move due to wind loading.
If it is other than a brick sh**house then forget it unless you want to call it temporary.

The shed is fairly large and robust, (despite me putting it up), but not particularly vertical, (see previous brackets)! I thought I could get round that with some clever bracketry so the pole would be vertical. The garden itself is tiny and swmbo will definitely not have a pole sticking up out of it, (or the garden - NOT XXX!!) There is an old washing line pole down the bottom but from memory it moves when windy due to 2 10' panels being held up by it.. Garden roughly faces East, (Sun rises at rear and sets at front) so no chance of picking up W channels if wall mounted below roof, (that right?). Only option may be shed mount or possibly Silver Birch mount as there is one of those too which is soon to be chopped down, (leave enough to mount dish maybe)..

Can you stick a pole up behind the shed? so it can't be seen.
Has your house not got a southern wall you can use? It is possible to mount a dish on an eastern wall just above the top of the brickwork, so still well below the top of the roof. It depends on the roof's slope and how far west you want to see.

Naa. No room behind the shed as it is right at the end of the garden and there is a green where the kids "play"..
No North or South walls as mid terrace. Not sticking dish higher than I can reach as I don't do ladders very well and neighbours would go nutso. May need to resort to underwater dish to stick in pond or moving house. May just try the shed mount and see what happens.

If it's your only option to get a decent view of the arc, then as you say, give it a go......
Oh and whlie you're at it, fit a twin lnb and run a feed into the shed, for your quiet room. You can put the TV and receiver on top of your fridge full of beer.![]() Yorks

Give it a go, try reinforcing the shed wall a bit, and mount the pole so it runs from the ground up the shed, with some sort of foot on the end for extra stability. You could use a patio mount, attached to a paving slab, extend the pole bit and then attach that to the shed for extra stability. Grow some ivy or something up it and it could look quite nice.
