Default Cancelling multiroom - do free channels continue?

Hi.

I'm needing a second TV hooked up to satellite. If I get multiroom and cancel multiroom after 12 months (I'm guessing there's a 12 month minimum) will I still be able to get the unencrypted channels on my second TV? If I can't get those channels, will it be a matter of Sky coming and taking away my second (multiroom) digibox or will I be able to keep and use that 2nd digibox and hook it up some alternative way for the free channels?

Thanks for any help.

The box will work fine for the free channels.

A good question

The second card will revert to FTV, so you'll still be able to get Channel 4, Five etc. too.

You'd need to check the wording of the Multiroom contract, but yes, I assume ownership of the second box passes to you unconditionally once a 12m period has expired. For the initial 12m period, it too has to be connected to the same phone line as the first, so if your first box is already out of contract, you'll have to plug it back into a phone line again if indeed you ever unplugged it.

: I've confused myself now!

Is multiroom mainly about a change in the way the equipment is set up? What I'm trying to say is that if the 2nd card is switched off for the subscription channels, everything physically (if that's not a funny way of putting it) is still there to receive the unencrypted channels?

Don't quite get that, but Multiroom is a way (other than fleecing you for another £10 a month) for Sky to control a secondary receiver/card pair at a reduced rate - hence the phone line thing.

You need to understand that Free To View is still encrypted, even though it has no ongoing subscription cost. FTV is the state that an expired subscription card is left in.

When your subscription period ends - either the main sub, or (and I'm guessing slightly, but this must be the case) a multiroom card, the card will still allow reception of FTA and FTV, though it actually remains the property of Sky at all times, and they can ask for it back whenever they choose. Not that I've ever known them to do that personally.

Hope this answers you question, but I doubt it somehow! ops:

when you cancel the multi room sub the equipment is still in place exactly as before. The card has the subscribed options switched off leaving you with a free to view capable box. Eventually, unless you pay the S*y FTV sub, the card will be downgraded to FTA.

I think that answers your question? That is what happened when I cancelled mine anyway.

The card will stay FTV all the while it remains it the box and in use.

Do you actually want a full sky sub in the second room?

You could just put a digibox in the second room with a ftv card and save the multiroom subscription for the first year.
