Default Getting ready for winter

With the winter just around the corner its time to start thinking about some basic winter maintenance on the sat dishes. 10 minutes of maintenance on a sunny afternoon now could say loads of problems later.

- give the face of the dish a generous spray with WD40 or GT85. It will help the water run off the dish.

- do the face of the lnb as well.

- make sure all the dish mounting bolts are securely done up.(Winter storms soon dislodge any dishes that are not bolted down firmly!)

Good advice. You won't be so inclined to do this in the freezing wet weather.

Grease everything up to keep the rust away 'till next year. Don't be afraid to lay it on thick on any threaded parts, clamps etc.

Make sure all cables are neatly clipped/tied out of the way, and all connections are waterproofed properly.

Sticks comment about the cables is a good point - loose cables will sway in the wind, and may well break the internal conductor in time.

I can also recommend getting a long handled brush for wiping the snow off the dish face

Go to halfrauds or a place where you don't need a second mortgage and get a spray can of waxoyl. spray nuts (the dishes not yours) and bolts and brackets with it. nothing will even dare to rust or seize up.

i installed my dish last year in cold weather, didn't seem to bother me, had my hat and gloves on lol

anyway yes the wd40 on the lnb and dish face is a good idea i did it a few week ago but seems tiny flies are stuck to it now

seems the moteck motors are prone to rusting, how/best way to stop this ?

must buy some grease as never bothered to do the bolts and stuff with some

might buy the 1224 in a few weeks as it will be cooler to fit it then

Install your dishes at somewhere between ground level and 5 feet and you never need a long handle brush
