The Polish Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) has begun an investigation into the activities of the DTH platforms Cyfrowy Polsat and Cyfra+.
According to a local report, the two companies allegedly threatened to rip up agreements with distributors who were offering the rival service n or planned to do so. All three platforms strive for national coverage, and the only way to achieve this is through working with even the smallest of Poland’s estimated 1.5 million companies/businesses. Ironically, n, which aims to have 300,000 subscribers by the end of the year, currently has the most agreements in place despite being the newest platform. Cyfra+ and Cyfrowy Polsat face the prospect of being fined a maximum of PLN85 million (€22.4 million) and PLN47.9 million respectively. Source: Broadband TV News
