I need to replace my receiver which stopped working today.
Is it just a matter or plugging in the power, satellite and scart cables, and then tuning in the channels (my dish is for Hotbird 13 degrees East only), or do I need to enter information about the dish itself? When buying a new receiver, can I buy one which will allow me to use the timer on my VCR to record programmes? Are receiver available which accept satellite and aerial signals together, enabling recording from both? How much should I expect to pay for a reliable receiver (I need one with a Viaccess 2.5 card slot and for Hotbird FTA channels). Many thanks. James |

Technomate TM1500 Super (Only satellite on this one, no Terrestrial). You can find them on ebay for about £85 inc postage
![]() Just plug it in and scan the satellite and all channels should be listed ![]() I think one of the Vantage receivers will allow you to do both Terrestrial and Satellite but don't quote me on that as i'm not 100% sure on it ![]() ![]() Nano P.S Can you refrain from asking the same question twice in different threads. I have removed the second question. Thanks

Thanks. I think I'll buy the Technomate 1500.
I can buy it from a local store (presumably unpatched), but a vendor on ebay claims his Technomate's are already patched for viaccess and conax. Is it worth buying the already patched one? What's the difference? Cheers! |

Thanks.
They also claim to have Viaccess 2 CONEX CAMS already built in. Does that mean any channels on Hotbird (the satellites I use) that are encrypted by Viaccess or Conex will be automatically available via this receiver? James |

No. Stuff comes and goes, but if you spend a little time each week, you can get quite a bit open. No guarantees though, all the pay-TV could go off tomorrow. Just a case of enjoying it while it lasts.
A monobloc LNB would allow you to get Astra 1 as well, and enjoy loads more programming. The Conax and Viaccess bit is just software, not hardware, but the Techno handles both.
