The latest entrant to Germany’s music television market, Concert Channel TV, has received a 10-year broadcasting licence from Thuringia-based media authority TLM.
According to managing director Christoph von Dellingshausen, the channel, based in the regional state’s capital city Erfurt, plans to screen live music performances comprising 24 styles from hard rock to pop, country, blues and jazz, with the exception of classical and traditional folk music. The service’s focus will be on concerts, tours and reports concerning the lives and works of music artists. The channel, which plans to finance through advertising revenue, targets music fans between the ages of 14 and 59 years. With digital distribution as a free-to-air offer on Astra (19.2° East), the channel will initially reach more than 40 million European households when it launches at the beginning of 2008. The pan-European approach is underlined by the channel broadcasting mainly in English. “Our goal is to reach 100 million households within four years,” said Dellingshausen, who predicts the service will be in the black already by 2009.
