Default Patching Technomate

I have a Technomate 1500CI and have just loaded a new s/w patch onto the box. I read somewhere something about the box then needing a factory reset for the new patch to work, is this true or am I just being stupid? Surely this would erase everything i've just put on?

A guide from Echelon on patching a technomate receiver:
1. Download to your pc the latest TM loader 1.8.7 or later as required depending on your stb and the bin file from darkman.
2. connect the NULL MODEM serial cable to your pc and stb.
3. Open tm loader 1.8.7 and load /browse the right file.
4. Your stb must have power/switched on from the back (standby mode)
4.Click on connect on the tm loader and power on your TM 1500
Loading starts, wait till it finishes ( writing and erasing)
5. Power off, connect scart or whatever power on

The manual is the official document for technomate receivers so might be discussing official update patches from their web site, you are loading an unofficial patch to open channels, therefore try Echelons method and see if it works.

As Mickha says, you're not in 'manual' territory now...

The patch works without a factory reset. I don't even know how to factory reset!

It's a menu option - noted in the manual. It will work on a patched box, but only resets the general parameters. It does not restore the original firmware.
